Appreciations of Luton Music…
'It's always exciting to visit Luton Music. The dynamism and talent of the performers it attracts, the warm welcome shown to musicians and audiences, that rich history stretching over seven decades... Music in Luton is flourishing thanks to the drive and energy of LM - and I'm proud to support it in any way I can.’
Petroc Trelawny
BBC music presenter
‘Luton Music is hugely admired for regularly bringing the most exciting and enterprising classical music events to the people of Luton and district, who should be proud to support it.’
Lord McKenzie of Luton
'Luton Music provides each year a wonderful programme of quality classical music played by professional musicians of the highest calibre. It makes am immense contribution to Luton’s vibrant music culture and enables local music lovers, young and old, to hear fine live music in the centre of Luton. It complements the work of the Luton Music Service and especially Luton’s superb and nationally renowned Youth Music.'

‘Luton Music has been providing excellent music events for many years. They are well organised, bringing professional artists to Luton who provide exciting and varied performances over their programme of events.’
Cllr. Hazel Simmons
Leader, Luton Borough Council
‘I can say, without fear of contradiction, that no other music club in Britain provides such rich and varied fare for such a reasonable price. The performers are of the very highest standard, the choice of music wonderfully varied. Remember, if you want live music to survive in Luton, it’s not up to somebody else – it’s up to YOU!’
Antony Hopkins CBE
‘Congratulations to the Luton Music Club… for its enterprise, scope and diversity… I may add that I am most proud and grateful that two concerts are being devoted to my works in celebration of my 80th birthday…’
Sir William Walton
‘I am quite certain that the variety and richness of English musical life stem from the enterprise of organisations like the Luton Music Club. With imaginative programme planning and a diversity of accomplished guest performers, the Luton club has been able to provide its audiences with constant stimulation and artistic rewards for some decades. I trust it will always have the support it truly merits.’
Sir Michael Tippett
‘I have a great admiration for the achievement of the Luton Music Club… I also have a very happy memory of my last visit to the Club and of enjoying its friendly atmosphere.’
Sir Lennox Berkeley
‘The club goes out of its way to offer opportunities for students in the town, from workshops with professional musicians to free tickets for concerts. Luton Music Club is something the town should be very proud of.’
Mel Coyle, course manager for music at Luton 6th Form College
‘…the Music Club’s wish to encourage music lovers to experience live music in their own town – and at such a very reasonable cost – is one which is very dear to my own heart.’
Yehudi Menuhin
Luton Music has been providing the people of the town and surrounding area with a rich diet of small-scale classical music since 1946.
It has become one of the leading promoters of such concerts throughout the UK, attracting the admiration of performing musicians, composers, concert agents, other promoters and, of course, the local musical public.
Luton Music has won many awards and accolades over the years for the enterprise and variety of its programmes. Its long season of around 20 concerts is unique among the country’s music clubs.
The programmes are carefully chosen to showcase the finest musical talent in Britain and abroad, with many opportunities given to rising young stars of the future. Luton Music cooperates with the Luton Music Service creating ambitious educational initiatives across a wide age range, involving many young performers and composers.
The late Chris Thomas, our previous Chairman (and Programme Secretary for 41 years until 2012/13), wrote a comprehensive history of the club from its founding up to 2013, which can be downloaded here.(~5MB)
