Over the years, the Czech Republic and Slovakia have produced some of the finest string quartets in the world and many of these have appeared at Luton Music Club. This is the first visit however by the
Wihan Quartet, a fine example of this glorious tradition, and an ensemble which has a strong connection in the area due to appearances at other local music societies and to a longstanding residency at the Cranfield
School of Management. Formed in 1985, the Quartet now pursues an impressive international career and has made over 18 recordings, a reflection of the group’s astonishing standard of ensemble and sheer
technical brilliance which has so impressed audiences throughout the world. For their Luton date they will be playing a very popular programme of Haydn’s Emperor Quartet, Smetana’s second quartet and
Schubert’s A minor quartet sometimes nicknamed the Rosamunde.
