This page is going to be a bit of a swank, let’s be honest – but, hey, we do have a lot to swank about! The Music on Mondays series has been hailed by performers, composers, concert managers, agents, music publishers, funding organisations, and even other music societies as one of the most dynamic, enterprising, and impossibly marvellous musical organisations run by volunteers in the whole country. Even audiences like us, too!

This country has some amazingly talented musicians, as you know, and our endeavour is to bring the best we can afford to sunny old Luton.  You won’t find Bryn Terfel or Alfred Brendel or such top names in our programmes - they are simply too expensive - but you will find artists of the highest quality, many with international careers, who often grace the platforms of the Wigmore Hall and the South Bank halls, and of the most prestigious festivals both here and abroad.  If past programmes are anything to go by, this is the place to hear great names of the future - before they get that famous.  You will also find top-drawer artists from abroad.  A brief look at the This Season page will give you an idea of the range.

The most extraordinary thing about this series is the sheer number of concerts we put on - 21 at the moment.  This is what makes people’s jaws drop.  Other voluntary societies put on six or so concerts a season, so our regular weekly shows stand out as literally unique.  Another point is that, despite this number of concerts, the cost is so very reasonable - a full season subscription works out at just over £6 a concert.  Yes, I did say £6 - and less than that if you are over 60, unwaged, or a student.  There are other shorter subscription schemes available for the timid, too!  See Tickets page for details.  Luton Borough Council funds us generously to enable the costs to be kept down so that most people can afford to enjoy good music.  Bless the Council, say we!

And bless the volunteers, too!  The series is planned and promoted by a group of enthusiasts who get not a penny for their pains, but love doing it.  But it is a professionally run and organised group, you can be sure of that!

We could go on and on about awards and accolades we have won, about recognition from all quarters, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating, as they say, and what really matters for us is very simple: getting ordinary folk to come and listen to top-quality live music regularly and to come out of each concert with a big satisfied smile on their faces and a barely-whispered ‘Wonderful!’  That is our payment.

See you there!
