About us

Luton Music has been providing the people of the town and surrounding area with a rich diet of small-scale classical music since 1946.  It has become one of the leading promoters of such concerts in the whole of the UK and has attracted the admiration of performing musicians, composers, concert agents, other promoters and, of course, the local musical public.  Luton Music has won many awards and accolades over the years for the enterprise and variety of its programmes.  Its long season of around 20 concerts is unique among its peers. It is now the only provider of professional classical music in Luton. Musicians are selected with enormous care and are among the finest in Britain and indeed the world. The annual series was long ago hailed as ‘the jewel in the crown’ of Luton’s cultural life and we like to think that remains so.

Concerts are held each Monday at 7.45 pm in the Library Theatre from the end of September until the end of March, with a 6-week break at Christmas / New Year when panto takes over the theatre.  The Library Theatre is a comfortable 238-seat venue with raked seating, excellent sight-lines, a licensed bar and a coffee / snack bar.  The atmosphere is warm and friendly and not at all ‘highbrow’ and the Luton Music team ensure that newcomers are made especially welcome.

Tickets and subscriptions are available in a range of options to suit different interests and budgets.  Click here for more details.

The concerts are financially supported by a number of musical and other organisations including Luton Cultural Services Trust, which is responsible for the arts, libraries and museums in the town.  These supporters are shown on our Home page.

Luton Music works closely with the LEA’s Luton Music Service to organise workshops, children’s concerts and masterclasses in conjunction with artists appearing in the concerts.  Participating young people can come to the concerts for free while their parents can accompany the for half-price.  Since 1994 some 70 such events have been held at over half of Luton schools.  The cost of these events is borne by the Luton Music Service.
